Friendly Matches

We have a number of fixtures throughout the summer period played Home and Away in alternate years against local clubs. These matches are match play format, usually 4-Ball Better Ball. The Ladies’ Vice Captain is responsible for arranging the matches and team selection. All ladies with handicaps are encouraged to sign up for selection; it is a great way for higher handicap players to gain competitive experience. Each Match is published on the notice-board in the ladies’ locker room inviting interested ladies to sign up. Team selection is made according to current playing ability.

Centenary Bowl

This is a competition for Surrey golf clubs and is aimed at the lower handicap players.

Pearson Competition

This competition starts as a ’round robin’ between 5/6 clubs and the winners proceed to a knock-out stage. It is for teams of 7 players with handicaps of 13 or above and is played as match play singles.

The Druce Competition

This is a Surrey competition for teams of two pairs – one of each pair must be a bronze (handicap 20-36) and one a silver (handicap 5-19) player. The first pair plays a round and scores on a Stableford 2 ball better ball ( ie the better of the two stableford scores to count). The second pair goes out in the afternoon and, on the same 2BBB basis, tries to better the score of the first couple. The final score therefore comprises the best of the 4 individual scores over the 18 holes.

The Derry Cup

This is a scratch competition where teams play singles matches and points are awarded for a win, with more for an away win, in each match giving an overall result for the team. The leading team in the group goes through to the next round.

Maple Leaf Trophy

The Maple Leaf Trophy is a competition for ladies with handicaps between 25 and 36 and played by up to 8 teams across Surrey and Hampshire. Teams comprise 5 players (plus up to 2 reserves) from each side, and play singles match play format (handicap allowance is based on the difference between full handicaps).
