Turkey Trot – Sunday 1st December

The annual Turkey Trot event was held on Sunday 1st December. We were lucky again with the weather – considering the amount of rain we have had this autumn and winter we were very lucky to get a bright sunny day, albeit a bit on the cold side. Twenty-five teams took to the course to play in a team yellow ball, best 3 out of 4 scores to count, stableford competition.

Santa and his helper (Margaret Lawson) toured around dispensing mince pies and coffee (occasionally accompanied by a ‘shot’ to ward off the cold wind). Apologies to those who Santa failed to reach but we were hampered this year by only being able to stick to the paths on the front 9 because of the wet conditions.

Following a fine turkey carvery roast lunch, MC Richard Snook asked Jamie Raven to run the auction of one of the reserved Car Parking spaces next to the Clubhouse.

Jamie did a great job in both extracting as much money as possible from the bidders and also entertaining everyone present.

“Hands up anyone who thinks a bid of £300 deserves to win?”

Jamie’s team won the Best Dressed Team award.

The Straightest Drive on the 5th Hole went to Evie Kircher (for the Ladies) and Steve Milligan (for the Men).

The Men’s Nearest the Pin on the 14th hole prize went to Jason Saunders.

Gill Wood won Ladies Nearest the Pin on the 4th hole but Gill had to dash off to look after Barney, so sadly she wasn’t there to receive her prize!!

As for the Turkey Trot team competition (a ‘yellow ball’ team stableford with best 3 scores to count). There were some excellent scores posted and there wasn’t much to split the teams.

The third-place team with a score of 151 points was Terry Mason, James Chisholm, Harley Blackwell and Junior Arquimbau (not pictured).

Second place, with a score of 157, went to the team of Lee Wood, Howard Somerville, Andrew Fraser and Graham, Robertson.

Thanks to everyone involved in running the Turkey Trot this year: Organisers – Richard Snook & Anne Sharp; Registration & Selling “Insurance Balls” – Gerald Bullock, Margaret Buchanan & Peggy Frost, Santa’s helper – Margaret Lawson and our resident photographer, Tim “Snappy” Ockenden for his ever reliable camera skills. Thanks to Jack Bamford for all the background work and arranging for the “Insurance Balls” from Titleist. And a big thank you to the bar and kitchen staff for looking after us so well.

Front of House Staff – Belinda, Inese, Sarah, Tomek, Sophia, Faye & Liam

The event raised approximately £1,100 for the Captain’s Charity (RDA – Sandhurst Branch) and £390 for the Junior Scholarship Program – a fantastic amount, thanks you to you all.

The Junior Boys also raised £440 by offering caddying and shoe / club cleaning services, to help fund the costs of the Boys Junior Team trip to Portugal in February where they will be one of two teams representing England in the Home Nations competition.

Thank you to everyone who turned out for what was a great day for all involved.
