A new year, a new Club Captain.

The Captain’s Drive-In and Putt Out ceremonial event was held last Sunday and what a day we had. After heavy rain over night we were wondering if the course would be closed. Fortunately the rain stopped, the sun came out and we had a lovely sunny day. Twentyfour four balls took to the course to play in a best 3 out of 4 scores to count competition, with power plays on 4 holes, nearest the pins on 6 and 14 and longest drives on hole 5.

Immediately following play, the ceremonial Putt Out and Drive-In took place. Ian Greenaway, our new Club Captain, placed a ball some 30 feet from the 18th hole, for Lee Wood to putt. Fearlessly, Lee sank his ball with two fine strokes of the ball.  Ian then stepped on to the 10th tee and flawlessly hit his drive down the middle, finishing one yard from the left hand fairway bunker.

Graham Robertson acted as “MC” for the day. His first job was to ask Lee, the outgoing Captain to present Ian with his Club Captain’s jacket.

Following a fine lunch, the prizes were presented. The “Pin that Drive” prize for the best guess for where Ian’s drive would end up was won by David Calcutt. The donations from the “Pin that Drive” competition will go to the Captain’s Charity which for Ian’s year is the Sandhurst Branch of Riding for the Disabled Association.

As for the Captain’s Drive-In team competition, some excellent scores were posted and there wasn’t much to split the teams. The third place team with a score of 129 points were Angela Kokaram, Christine Thompson, Evelyn Somerville and Gill Wood.

Second place, with a score of 132, went to the team of Jason Grech, Chris Pritchard, Jay Pitchford and Chris Maddison.

First place, with a score of 133 points, went to the team of Fabien Napier, Kate Thorne, Eva Lau and Sam Randall.

Other prizes were awarded for nearest the pin on 14 for the Men (won by Jason Saunders) and on 6 for the Ladies (won by Susan Holland). The Longest Drives on the 5th hole were won by Mahendra Phagami for the Men and Sam Randall for the Ladies.

Thank you to everyone who turned out for what was a great day for all involved.
