Captain’s Charity Day – 2nd June 2019
This year we are supporting a local charity called Oakleaf Enterprise. As well as providing safe haven, counselling and wellbeing services, Oakleaf helps people suffering with mental illness by offering opportunities to learn new skills in IT, Upholstery and Horticulture. The Charity is based in Guildford and helps as many as 400 people a week in our area.
The Captain’s Charity Day is one of the main opportunities to try and raise money for the charities we have supported over the years. This year Jamie Raven will host the main auction and will be auctioning some sought after 4 and 3 ball vouchers to play Sunningdale Old and the Dukes at Woburn, together with other lots including a personalised item signed by Darren Clarke (must have piece of sport memorabilia), some fine wine, and a fantastic golf lesson package with our head coach Lee Mucklow. Jamie will also conduct the draw, made up from all those who buy “squares” on the draw board on sale on the day, for the 4-ball voucher at the Buckinghamshire GC.
There will also be a Silent Auction where members can bid for a number of 4 ball vouchers, plus a personalised Ping pro golf bag signed by Lee Westwood and a luxury Fortnum and Mason “Highgrove” hamper.
At the Captain’s Drive in last year we also invited those playing to take money bags for loose change that could be collected throughout the winter and early spring months. If anyone has done this we would love to receive your bags on the day. Alternatively, if you are not playing, please return the bags to the pro shop at your convenience.
No matter what is raised, thank you in advance for your amazing generosity this year and throughout all the years we have been helping national and local charities in our area. The money raised makes a huge difference to these organisations carrying out fantastic work helping and supporting people in need.
Thank you to all the members who turned out on the evening of May 1st for a divoting session alongside the greenkeeping team. We managed to cover 18 holes and in the coming weeks I am sure you will see the benefits. We know the greenkeeping team works hard to present a great course for us each day. However, we can also help the team by repairing divots and pitch marks. Can I ask all members to replace your divots and repair your pitch marks (and other marks if you feel so inclined)? This will go a long way to help present a course in top condition throughout the summer, which is an objective I am sure we all aspire to.
Congratulations to the all the ladies who played their part in helping Windlesham ladies retake the Maple Leaf trophy in the final played at Northants Golf Club between Windlesham and Farnham. The team captain was Rosemary Barton, well done to Rosemary and all the ladies who played and made themselves available for selection throughout the competition.
Congratulations also to Lynn Lambert and her Pearsons team who have once again made it through to finals day. Finals day will comprise semi-finals and the final on the same day. We wish Lynn and her team great success.
