February saw the Academy hold its 8th Annual Scholarship Presentation Evening. On this evening we celebrate and review the achievements of the juniors throughout the previous year, rewarding those who have dedicated themselves to competitive golf whilst exhibiting respect for others.

The scholarships are awarded to four juniors who have placed 1st and 2nd in the two main divisions of the Academy Cup. In addition, prizes are given to the 1st and 2nd place in the introductory Division 3, most improved in 2018 who was out of the prizes and an additional two scholarships to girls who show promise in order to encourage more girls into golf.

The Academy Cup is a robustly structured 10-category OOM event that runs throughout the year (see attached presentation), which has caught the eye of Mizuno, who has sponsored events for the past 4 years and more recently the European Tour. The Tour in 2018 established its foundation to support elite golf, community golf and those with disabilities. We invited the head of the Tour Foundation Nick Rose to present prizes in order for him to experience first-hand the impact the programme is having. With 112 in attendance, Nick stood up at the traditional Q&A stating how impressed he has been with the programme and the commitment of the juniors at Windlesham. Nick then went on to say how he saw the partnership between the Tour Foundation and Windlesham as a long-term relationship in order to elevate the programme to the next level and beyond.

Overall the evening was another great success, we incorporated videos of Sam Storey and Ryan Morrison talking to us from their respective colleges in America where both are currently on 4-year golf scholarships, followed by a wonderful video of our girl’s team on tour edited by 13-year-old Ellie Monk. The evening was completed by Nick presenting prizes to our 2019 scholars and Division 3 winners each of who I hope left with memories that will stay with them for years to come.

In closing, this programme wouldn’t be where it is today without the commitment of all the Juniors and their families together with the assistance of all those who have sponsored us over the years. In particular, I would like to thank the Academy coaches Richard, Ben and Chris for all their commitment and hard work too.
