On Sunday June 3rd we could not have wished for better weather to play in the annual Captain’s Charity Day. This year, our Club Captain decided to let others do the playing whilst he attended to important matters such as driving the course in a buggy to deliver much needed sustenance in the form of ice cooled chocolate bars. The gesture was much appreciated.

104 eager golfers were out on the course for an early morning shotgun start, and not a single no show for which Graham and the organizers who worked with him were very grateful.  Thanks must go to Bill McIntosh, Chris Dalton, David & Helen Hall, Indeg Curtis & Rosemary Barton for choosing to help, not play, and handle registration, other admin, plus the sale of raffle tickets and of course the “squares”.

Thanks also to Tim Ockenden for taking the photos after lunch; and to Graham’s daughter Clare for standing in for Tim in the morning.  The photos from the day can be found by clicking here.

As for the prizes, our prize winners were as follows:

Nearest the pins:

Hole 6 – Kathryn Naylor & Terry Mason; Hole 14 – Angela Kokaram & Zach Georgiou.

Hole 1 – Sarah Mardani; Hole 18 – Mike Wilmore.

With best 2 Stableford scores to count and the bonus PowerPlay holes, the winning team with 104 points was:

Jo Woodham, Suz Hedges, “Benson” Hedges & Tiku Patel.

Runners-up with 102 points:

Chris Legg, Gerry Kelly, Grant Chambers & Marcus Robbins.

3rd place with 101 points:

Fiesal Bacchus, Fiona Salmon, Paul Knight & Pauline Gibbs.

4th place with 99 points (on countback):

Andy Mills, Mike Phelps, Rob Crew & Vince Mcshane.

Many members helped with the attempts to raise money.   Thanks go to everyone who donated something for the raffle and auction.  In particular, our Club Captain would like to go on record to thank Janet Scott & Sue Moynihan for making the raffle table such a brilliant display.

Sincere thanks must also go to Hilary Ashby for her fantastic cake, and recognition too that Hilary supports countless fundraising events with her baking and fantastic creations which over the years have raised many hundreds of pounds.  Finally, gratitude must go to Rob Nesbitt for obtaining the 3-ball voucher for The Wisley GC.  The grid raffle for that voucher raised a marvelous £1,000.  As Rob fights to cope with the surgery he had to undergo last week, let’s give thoughts and best wishes to Rob in the coming weeks and months as he starts the journey towards recovery.

With all the activities of Sunday, including the auctions (and the generous bidders), we raised just over £7,500 – a very impressive sum.  That sum included individual donations from members who were not able to attend on the day.  Each year the generosity of Windlesham members in support of chosen charities is incredible and we should be proud of the impact this has on the lives of those who benefit.

As a reminder, we are currently running a membership raffle.  You will all have received a request for annual subscriptions for 2018/19.  The winner of the raffle (to be drawn on 1 July) will have their subscription fees paid for.  There are two other prizes, 2nd & 3rd being £100 & £50 respectively onto the loyalty card.  Tickets are £20 each and available in the Pro Shop throughout June.  The net proceeds will be shared equally between the Captain’s Charity & the Scholarship Programme.  Please do buy a ticket.
