Last Sunday evening Victoria and myself had the honour of attending the Children With Special Needs Foundation thank you dinner at Foxhills as guests of founder members Gordon and Ann Parris.

It was a fantastic evening and a real opportunity to hear the results of the fund raising efforts of all the CWSNF supporters from the past year, and to actually see where our money goes.

We heard stories from Elaine Placitelli – mum to James, who ran the Virgin London Marathon in support of the CWSNF. The family have been provided with a pressure pad for James’s bed which alerts the family should James have a seizure whilst asleep (a not unusual occurrence by all accounts) and two different sorts of buggies, one of which can be attached to a bike and the other is all terrain, so James can join in family outings.

We heard from David Jackson – Headmaster at The Abbey School in Farnham, who talked about the help the school has received from the CWSNF, in particular the recent donation of a new Minibus which helps the children go on many off-site adventures!

There was also Carol Gardiner- Deputy Head from Abbey School talking about a trip to Florida for 8 lucky pupils and how experiences such as these really bring the children out of themselves and for some is a life changing experience. I should add that through Gordon and Ann’s contacts, flights, accommodation, entry to theme parks, VIP treatment and all expenses, are fully paid. Very little if anything comes from fundraising throughout the year.

We were also entertained by magician Jaimie Raven. Some of you may remember his act from our Captains’ Charity Day back in June. Jamie is a patron of the CWSNF and very generously gives up his time to support many of their events. The bonus for us is that following our charity day, he was so impressed with the membership, the course and the facilities, he resigned his membership at Wentworth to join Windlesham Golf Club.

The evening continued with many of this years contributors and fund raisers present to receive thank you’s from Gordon, Ann and their committee, but Victoria and myself through your efforts and generosity were given a very special mention and a standing ovation when we presented a cheque for £35,500 from the members of Windlesham Golf Club.

Your donations will buy a brand new static home in Pagham Holiday Park near Chichester early next year. It will be managed by the CWSNF and will be used for both the children and their families to provide a short break in an attempt to get them away from their daily environment and expose them to new experiences.

Whilst Victoria and I were the ones receiving the thanks on the evening, everyone in the room realised and appreciated the donation was only made possible through the exceptional generosity of our members.

From Victoria and I, and on behalf of Gordon, Ann and the CWSNF…….thank you ????.
