This was our 6th scholarship presentation evening with 90 in attendance and following on from the hugely successful 2015 presentations, with Ryder Cup Captain Paul McGinley, last year’s presentation was always going to be tough to follow.

The European Tour’s Anthony Wall kindly accepted the invitation to award the prizes and take part in a Q&A session after the awards. Scholarship prizes were awarded to junior golfers for their continued dedication to golf and competitive success within the annual order of merit event The Academy Cup. Scholarships are awarded to the first and second placed juniors in Division’s 1 and 2. Trophies are also awarded to first and second place in the Club Handicap Division 3, and the junior golfer who has made the biggest improvement throughout the year outside of the scholarship prizes.

Here are the junior honourees from this year:

Most Improved from 2014-2015 – Estelle Ingram/Hayden Campling

Div.1 Runner-up – Sam Woodham

Anthony was a junior golfer at Fox Hills GC before being talent spotted by Sunningdale GC. Through continued dedication Anthony made it onto the European Tour in 1996 retaining his card for the last 20 years with career earnings of over £6,250,000. The evening was a huge success with Anthony giving a star performance fielding questions from the keen audience for 20 minutes. Lee Mucklow declared his concern at the beginning of the year by stating, “as I thought to myself how I am going to make this evening surpass that of 2015 – but with Anthony and Wilson Golf’s support I am now left thinking how am I ever going to make the 2017 presentations live up to the success of this year”.
