SUMMER KNOCK OUTS, MONTHLY & EXTERNAL COMPETITIONS AND INTER CLUB MATCHES.
It might only be March and not much golf has been played but there has been plenty of activity behind the scenes with WGC entering, signing up for, planning matches, appointing Team Captain’s and mixing things up a bit for 2012.
So here’s a resume of what’s in the pipeline for 2012 at WGC.
DAILY MAIL FOURSOMES:
Cliff Conway and Jeff Rankin won the qualifier held in October 2011 and will represent WGC in this event and have been drawn to play Wentworth (away) in the first round early March – Good Luck guys.
Jason Saunders and Andrew Devonport will be representing WGC in this prestigious event which is held over four days commencing on Tuesday 13th March when the guys will tee off at 10.06 on the New Course against a pair from Brocket Hall and Welwyn Garden City and should they go all the way the Final will be on Friday 16th on the Old Course.
WGC has entered two teams into the Surrey 5’s Competition and the matches are played at weekends with the teams being made up of five players.
A) Two players with handicaps in the range 5 thru to 12
B) Three players with handicaps 13 thru to 18.
Normally sandwiches etc after the event, a match fee will be charged for both home and away fixtures to cover the hospitality costs.
In the event of an away fixture there will normally be a practice / courtesy round and so should you be selected you will need to be available for this as well as the match.
If you are interested in playing and would like to be considered for selection for this competition please send an email to David Kent at firstname.lastname@example.org and your name and details will be forwarded to the respective Surrey Fives Captains who will select the teams to represent the club.
First match is the “A” Team against West Surrey at WGC and the 24th March has provisionally been booked for the match against them at Windlesham and the “B” Team Match will be in April.
SURREY SCRATCH KO:
Jason Saunders will be the Captain / Organiser for this competition in 2012 so if you LOW HANDICAPPERS are interested please contact him direct.
Doug MacPherson will be the Captain / Organiser for this competition in 2012 again please contact direct if interested.
TIGERS & RABBITS:
Anyone interested in playing for the club on Thursday afternoons for the
TIGERS (Handicap below 15) or the RABBITS (Handicap 15 and above) should contact:

March will see the start of two competitions per Division per month at weekends and in two of them in March there will be a trial of different formats to see what if any effect they will have the day.
So please take note –
Saturday March 25th Division 1 Stableford will be Four Balls and Ten Minute Tee Slots.
Sunday March 31st Division 2 Stableford will be Four Balls but standard 8 Minute Tee Slots.
If you are playing in either event any CONSTRUCTIVE FEEDBACK / COMMENTS will be welcomed.
Also please be advised that from now on the Monthly Competitions will be closing down 3 Days before the event so if it’s a Saturday Comp it will close on a Wednesday and conversely the Sunday Comp’s will close on a Thursday from now on so that any spare tee times can be released for Social Golf etc.
MID WEEK COMPETITIONS:
Aside from the normal MID-WEEK ROLL UP between April and October there will also be an additional
MID-WEEK ROLL UP every third Monday which will be open to everyone.
It will be off the YELLOW TEES (S.S.S. 70) so if you want to get your game in shape for Thursday or if you just want a game on a Monday you can always play in this one!
SUMMER KNOCK OUTS:
This year they will be listed on the Computer for sign up.
Unfortunately we do not have the technology to take payment from your cards yet so you will still have to put your ENTRY FEES in an envelope and in the Men’s Competitions box.
Closing date for the 2012 Knock Outs will be the10th April and can I remind you all that:
A) If you have not paid your ENTRY FEE by that date you will not be included in the draw.
B) Please check that you have played 3 QUALIFIERS (N/R’s do not count) in the eleven months prior to the Closing Date.
All the Competitions and the Entry Criteria’s are posted on the WGC Website it is your responsibility to check you have met the criteria not the organiser’s.
When they check it will be after the closing date and if you do not fulfil the criteria for any reason you will not be included in the draw.
ORDER OF MERIT:
This year there will also be Individual Order’s Of Merit for both Divisions’s based on the results of the Monthly Competitions that are run from April through to September.
There will also be a separate Club Order of Merit (Qualifying Competitions TBA) and the Winner and Runner will be offered the chance to represent WGC in the RACE TO PORTUGAL GOLF TOURNAMENT which will take place at the beginning of November at Quinta Da Lago in Portugal.
Further details will be made available in the near future.
SANDMARTINS / CHOBHAM / TYLNEY INTER CLUB MATCHES:
Start in May on Sunday 06th with a Home match against Sandmartins and run through until September.
with Tylney Park being a new addition this year taking us to Six Matches in total for 2012.
If you are interested in playing in any of these matches a sign up sheet will be posted in the air lock shortly where you can register to be considered.
So a busy 2012 and I have not mentioned the Club Championships in July, The Anniversary Trophy, Finals Day yet!
