The 2011 Men’s Club Championships took place over the past weekend with 102 members taking part.

The 36-Hole, two day medal is one of the club’s main events of the season with the best male golfers in the club competing for the Gold Medal Scratch, along with the best net scores in division one and two contesting the Silver and Bronze Trophies.

Club Championship Report – Saturday 09th – Sunday 10th July 2011

Many a story unfolded in the “Score Room” as the cards came in – too many to tell here but lots of tales of woe as you would expect but also some good rounds and moments to savour, the best of which was probably Owen Espley’s Hole-in-One on the 6th on Sunday, which cost him a few drinks!

Still, that’s what it’s all about some good banter and some shared experiences stories – we’ve all been there and we can do it all again next year, same time same place.

The weather was pretty kind although there was a sharp shower midway through the first day which soaked a few but conditions on the second day were almost perfect.

However spare a thought for Peter Embleton – very much in contention for both Gold and Silver medals after Day 1 but unfortunately was struck down with a severe bout of hay fever during the second round and was unable to finish as he couldn’t see the ball through his streaming eyes – better luck next year Peter.

All the results and scores are on the website but the winners were:

Club Champion – Gold Medal – Carl Riches.

Division 1 – Silver Medal – David Brazendale.

Division 2 – Bronze Medal – Ian Shipway.

Also a big thank you to Les and his Team for providing a course that was set up exceptionally well for both days of the Championship with pin positions that were fair but a challenge for all concerned.

Also thanks to everyone (you know who you are) who assisted and provided support over the two days it was much appreciated.
