To celebrate the start of our season, the eagerly anticipated Race Night went under starters orders on Saturday evening. This type of members’ event hosted by Exclusive Race Nights has not been seen by Windlesham Golf Club in recent years but was very well supported with approx 120 people turning out for the evening.
With a welcome drink on arrival, the form consisted of 8 horse races divided by an interval for a buffet meal.
Bets were set at a £1 each with eight horses to a race, so a 1 in 8 chance of winning. The maths was very simple, but this was all serious stuff. There were syndicates galore and all sorts of scientific selection criteria; favourite number, colour of the horse, good looking jockey, finger in the air etc etc.
Of course, there were winners and losers on the night. One very happy table managed to secure a winning horse at auction bagging £216 for an outlay of under £28! Congratulations to messrs Charge and Lilley.
To cap the evening off we had a novelty race of porkers, with ‘Big Willy’ just missing out to ‘Lester Piglet’!
Our thanks to all who helped bring the event together, but in particular to our two volunteers Andrew Fraser and Lee Wood, who manned the tote tirelessly on their own throughout the entire evening.
